Given up: on festival season and chumming a friend down the river…

Dear “Addicted to Africa Diary”...Festival season is upon us, but I’ve decided to give it a miss in favour of the travel kitty. Recently we took a friends canal boat out on the Thames - well, I like a bit of life on the river :)  Yes, I’ve done the traditional “Booze Cruise” on the Zambezi and watched the glorious sunset. It’s a dream trip and while it’s popular with lots of travellers you’ll still see your fair share of animals roaming around.  Hippos and elephants popped by to say hello – the wildlife viewing most definitely, best enjoyed with a sundowner.

That said – if you’re looking to loll about on the river it’s got to be Botswana that takes the biscuit (and then some) – in fact, by a whole nine yards.    Being poled through the reeds was like dipping in a copy of "National Geographic," for real.  Our poler was the font of all knowledge when it came to the flora and fauna and he even seemed to understand the animals psyche.  The hippos are a little too curious when it comes to safari goers so we stayed close to the shore and later in the day, with the temperature soaring, we even had a chance to take a dip and cool off away from the reeds with a swim.

Some people might opt for a spa, but I’d opt for the Delta every time – it was so peaceful and the sunsets were incredible.  Don’t know where I’m heading next Africa – with so many options it’s that much harder to make a decision.  Whatever the itinerary, it has to overland as there are just far too many countries and experiences to uncover…

Saving up for your next Africa trip...any great ideas on how to generate more cash for Amelia's travel kitty? From the weird to the wonderful we're all ears…
